http://global.ebay.com/K98_German_Mause ... 99999/item

Its not clear from the description, but the second picture in the listing makes it looks like a sight base is included in the sale as well as the main rear sight.

No, that's just the slider, ramp and the top part of the rear sight base. It doesn't include the bottom part which slides over the receiver.

Maybe he could get away with the ramp only, because attaching the full sight base seems to make the rear sight sit too high on the wider VSR barrel anyway?

Blimey. Lets see how my first one goes. If it all goes smoothly (does it ever?) I may do a run of them. Problem is if I do too much more airsoft stuff I may end up single

Still gotta do this darn lewis gun first. Nearly done tho :)

Tom I like that youve finished the BAR 10 cylinder in black, but how did you get the paint to stick to it?

The cylinder on my VSR looks like its stainless alloy. It is an aluminium alloy but it looks like it would be a bugger to get paint to adhere to it and STAY on. Wire brush the finish off & then paint it?

Mines will be finished next week (off work for a week  ). I only have to screw on the rear sight now that it as been ground down sufficiently and assemble the bolt.

This thread has been visited probably hundreds of times for reference over the last 6 months. It simply wouldnt have happened without this thread :happyclap:

Anyway I will post pics up of the things that werent so obvious to me as I done the conversion, and the things that I suspect are specific to the TM VSR.

Well MB07 in a Dboys K98.

460fps with a custom hop unit and AEG barrel. I'm happy with it, could have done more fine details but just could not be arsed!

Very nice, although I think you've put the front sling loop on the wrong way around. It should go on the left side.

i've been thinking of doing a k98 and was wondering if anybody could answer a few questions about the dboys gas(or spring) shell ejecter.before i go any further i know they have a bad reputation and the shell eject is a non-starter for a skermishable gun but....
would someone with suficient skills be able to permanently mount a shell to the front of the bolt(or a shell shaped and length nozzle) and fit a more conventional bb magazine discreetly in a way that the front of the shell (also with a bore reducer so the bb doesent go inside)would select and load a bb in a fairly conventional way.
this would cut down on the leekage problems and the shell eject in one hit possibly quite simpley, now i could be barking up the wrong tree but if you have one and can viualise what i mean do you think it could work?

armoury
m1a1 Thompson,sten mk2,mp40,stg44,sterling,mk2 bren gun,lee Enfield no4 mk1,Mauser Kar98, Walther ppk,smith and Weston m10 and Mauser m712
Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well

Shellshokt did something similar to what you described a while back and although it did work, apparently the performance still totally sucked!

details eariler in this thread, last post on the page:

i think it would be verry simple, replace the hop ,put a new nozzle on the front of the bolt and have a magazine that drops in the top when the bolt is drawn back ,no need to do anything to difficult, admitedly it would be harder to upgrade springs but the overall conversion would only need a new barrel ,hop and magazines in the way of new parts ,no need to buy a hole gun to cut up.makeing a magazine that fits in the space of 5 cartridges shoul be quite easy and i like the idear of loading from the top ,not quite a stripper clip but in that vane.

Just had a look and I think you could fit the workings of that KJW in quite well mate.
Depends on how much its going to cost you though as some second hand Tanaka Gas rifles are well worth the money.

I've got a spare "hop block" laying about I think, if you still need one.

Where can I source the sheet ally from? Good ol' Ebay? And the epoxy that everyone uses, Araldite?

Ebay is good for ally sheet offcuts. I always used JB weld or "Liquid metal" for fixing stuff like rear sights. I also need to send you that block that I keep forgetting about!

Funnily enough I just sent you a message about that! I'll give Ebay a look and see if I can source some 1mm ally to do the band on the front of the receiver and some JB weld with which to attach it.

Thanks mate :good:

You can buy a sheet of 1mm Ally at any B&Q in the hardware section!

Should be fine, you are just looking to replicate the "step" in the receiver really. Also more than 1mm and you may struggle to bend it into a nice smooth curve.
